Announcement

Jake helped us make an announcement this Christmas! He came up with this all on his own!

"Hear Ye! Hear Ye! One and all,
Around July we'll have four in all"

Look at that smile!

Jake got his braces off! Not only does he now have nice straight teeth, he has learned some very important lessons on patience, responsibility and oral hygiene!

Now we wait for the rest of his baby teeth to fall out to start Stage 2.

Time to Unfreeze

So, I've been procrastinating enough on my tag.

I like that I can cry at a movie, a sappy story, that I feel deeply. It does show on my face, and that I don't like!

I like that I usually think the best of people and situations.

I like that I am always willing to learn something new and want to be constantly growing and learning.

Sorry, not that exciting of a list! But now comes the fun part! I will tag:

Alana

Freeze Tag

So, I've been tagged.

Tell everyone three things you like about yourself.
Tag three people to play along.
Go on in peace.

I have to admit I never really enjoyed the game of tag. I was never fast enough to catch anyone, so once "it", it was pretty rough to get out of "it". In freeze tag however, you were frozen when tagged, until someone came along and unfroze you or there was only one person left. Translation - I've been tagged and will remain frozen while I think about this!

New Family Member

So, the decision is final, we've decided to add a new member to our family! He is the one on the left! We haven't told the boys yet, and we won't get him until the 25th of November. Any ideas for a name?

This one's for Alana

Micah and Grandma enjoying the ice cream part of an Ice Cream Social

On the playground

In his favorite room at preschool - it has computers!

"Micah thanks God for hot dogs, his family. He also hopes he gets a dog soon!"

Micah showing off his handiwork and his smile!

Does Camo really go with everything?!

One of the things I enjoys about homeschooling is that it gives my boys the opportunity to interact with children of other ages. Every Friday morning while Micah and Sophia are at preschool, Cooper gets to come hang out with his cousins Jake and Luke. I so enjoy watching them interact, relate, play and take care of Cooper. I think he enjoys it too! He is so excited to get here and just soaks up the boy time. Some school work still has to be done, so Cooper likes to help out.

Off to Uganda

Happy Belated Birthday!

Jake and Nana turning another year older. I can't believe that my boy is 11, Eleven, one more that ten (as Micah says it)! He is getting so grown up, becoming more independent, yet is still my litte boy!

Jake requested this for his birthday. Thanks Nana & Papa and the Curtis family! I feel so much safer knowing there is a Jedi Knight in my house!

Rescue

This has been my theme song for the last couple of weeks. I heard it on the radio a few weeks ago and it has stuck with me. I finally did some research - so here it is. Let me know what you think. It's called Rescue.

BAM!

This post is dedicated to my wonderful husband Dan! (He came up with the title)
Today, he took the day off to take our older two boys fishing. Last night was filled with preparation. He had to hook the boat and trailer up to the truck, makes sure the trailer lights worked, mix gas/oil for the motor, put line on the fishing poles, load poles, life jackets, tackle boxes . . . you get the idea.
He woke Jake & Luke up early and they all headed out. Once in the truck, he asked if they were all buckled and Luke says "Aren't we just going to the pond?" (Papa's pond right behind our house for those who don't know - a 2 min walk!)
At around 1:30pm they come home. Jake was the only one who caught a very small fish during the 3 HOURS they were fishing!
After dinner Micah wanted to go fishing with Daddy too! Dan took Micah out to Papa's pond. After both of them catching fish Micah came in and then Dan caught the fish below!

Unanswered Prayer

Micah recently told me that God had not answered his prayer.

"What did you pray for Micah?"

"I prayed that God would give me "The Force" and he didn't!"

I was not prepared for that one!

Happy Birthday Luke!

we will rejoice and be glad in it"

It's not easy being Green

Isn't it amazing how many different things can come to mind now with one word - Green

I have been busy over the last few days canning green beans. Luke loves homemade canned green beans, they are the only one's he will eat. So, this year I planted four rows of green beans so I could can them. This was the first time I have accomplished this by myself(with minimal phone calls to mom!). And I didn't blow anything up! The first step is picking the beans - here is just a small portion of what I have been able to pick - 1/2 bushel makes approx. 12-14 quarts.

After picking comes cleaning and clipping. I opted to use scissor, I think it is easier than snapping them all by hand.

After stuffing them into jars with 1 tsp. salt, adding bowling water and putting the lids on, they go into the pressure cooker. They needed to be maintained at 10 lbs. of pressure for 25 min. - No distractions!

Finished product!

Piano Recital

The boys had their piano recital last night. This was Jake's 4th recital and Luke's first. Jake is a pro at this even though he says he doesn't like to be up in front of others. Luke was very nervous, but he did an awesome job!

Living Room Renovations

Our living room renovations are almost completed! Here is what it looks like!
We still have a couple of spots to patch and need to pick out a ceiling fan (which I find difficult for some odd reason), oh yeah, and some wall decor - any suggestions?
It is amazing how some lighting, a real ceiling and no bumps in the carpet can make such a difference. Now onto the next room . . .

Motorcycles & T-ball

This weekend was a weekend of firsts for Jake and Luke. Jake went on his first motorcycle adventure with Grandpa and Luke had his first t-ball game.

All decked out in his motorcycle gear . . .

and ready to go! (Doesn't he look small!)

Luke as catcher . . .

and one of his 3 hits! He didn't even have to use the tee! Way to go Luke!

They'll Know We are Christians

I first sang this hymn at Bible Study Fellowship and it has stuck with me ever since. It has been going through my mind today . . . over and over and over. I thought I'd look it up for some more info and found out Jars of Clay has done this one. I love the chorus "they'll know we are christians by our love, by our love, yes they'll know we are christians by our love." Do they?!

Topsail Beach

Here are just a few snapshots of our time just hanging out with family at the beach. Ethan and Luke after a long day in the sun in the living room.
Gracie and Cooper "incognito"!

Micah and Mia - he really enjoyed his time with her.

Alana and Jake in front of the Dolphin Inn - the official name of the beach house.

All the cousins before the departure for our long drive home. You can't see the ocean behind them or the dolphins that came out for Aunt Terri's cheer!

A fun time was had by all, many memories were created and minimal sunburning!!

Busy, Busy, Busy

Well, we have so much going on right now!

I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of my cousin Anna for a visit from Oregon, and of course, her beautiful girls too!

We are minus a living room while it is under construction. Something we have talked about doing for way too long and now it is actually being done - Yeah! While finding a place for all our stuff from the living room, I started to think that we have way too much! Most of it is kids clothes, toys, etc. that are nice to have around, you'll never know when we'll need them! Maybe it is time for a garage sale!

I am supposed to be planting (or have planted) my garden, but that is still in process. The rain today is good, but does not help much get completed. We did receive some free peppers and tomato plants from a guy Dan works with - blessings that come from procrastination?!

Oh yeah, I need to start packing for a trip to NC to visit my sister and her family and enjoy a week on the beach! I think if I survive this week I'll need the vacation!

We've all been a little under the weather lately. I guess I feel the need to see the beauty around me when I am feeling bleck. These picture do not compare with the real thing. They are just a snapshot of God's handiwork.

These are the apple blossoms. The fragrance is wonderful. What you can't see are the bees that were swarming the tree! Since the two apple trees haven't yet produced edible fruit, this is when I most enjoy them.

We have two cherry trees that do produce an abundance of cherries for us. I look forward to cherry juice dripping down to my elbows as I take the pits out of them for a cherry pie!

Coincidence?

I have recenlty finished reading Tracy Kidder's Mountains Beyond Mountains about Dr. Paul Farmer. I was referred to this book by a friend who always challenges me to think differently than I am in the habit of thinking. I would recommend it for so many reasons, but I am not going to list them all. I was at work last night and got to watch my bi-monthly episode of 60 minutes. I was thrilled to see that they were airing a segment on Paul Farmer and the work he does all over the world. Take a look and if it interest you, read the book!

Ok, so the plan was to have the 60 minutes video, but that is not working, so here is a link to another blog that you can watch it on.

My "Superman"

I am blessed to have a 4yr.old in my life. Micah is filled with joy. Joy for life. Pure joy. He wakes up happy. He makes me smile so many times when I need it most. Thank you God for showing me joy through my 4yr. old.

Anti-Arbor Day?!

No, we are not anti arbor day, but my husband did choose this last weekend
to take down an elm in our yard.
The boys thought it quite fun and learned how to cut down a large
tree without all the special equipment the professionals use.
All we needed was a truck, ladder, chain, and chainsaw.
