Easter Pics!

Here are some of our Easter pictures! The boys wanted the egg hunt outside and Papa was happy to oblige! We missed the Price family and Uncle Wendell this year, but did have some friends join us, so that was a treat!

The Langnesses: Emily, Noah & Aaron on Noah's first official egg hunt!

Grandpa & Micah checking out the goods! Notice the sun did come out for awhile!

Dan may have been a little too excited to take over for Cooper who was napping!

Sophia was the only girl this year! I had so much fun filling her eggs!

Papa had to get creative for the older boys.

5:00 AM!

Well, I think we've started on a new phase of parenting. I don't have a name for it, but so far it has provided Dan & I with immense amusement!

Jake spent the night with a friend and made the bad choice of staying up until 5:00 AM! After just four hours of sleep, they were back up and playing.

Neither Dan or I were thrilled when we heard this-from Jake's own mouth. I am not sure if he was bragging, thinking it was cool, or if (thankfully) he still wants to tell us everything.

I don't know about you, but I don't do very well on 4 hours of sleep and we had a busy day planned. We had a birthday party and then were going to Sat. night service. Jake was a little groggy during the party but the ride to church put him to sleep. I have a saying that I use frequently with my husband and now am starting to with my children "I have no sympathy for self-induced misery". Dan picked up on that and decided to have a little "fun" with Jake on the way to church. As soon as Jake would start to nod off, Dan would either slam on the brakes, swerve or blast the radio.

Since Jake didn't get a nap in the van, he had a hard time staying awake during the service. I don't think it is too much to expect him to stay awake for an hour and participate. Normally, I think he would have been willing to, but since he was sooo tired this was an long hour! It was distracting also, because as he would start to nod off, Dan would attempt a wet-willy, plug his nose, or some other sort of bothersome thing. I was trying not to laugh and Luke couldn't stop laughing.

Now, I am not sure if these methods are endorsed by any parenting experts, but we did find them amusing and Jake did too. Is it bad to be amused at the sake of your child? Dan and Jake did have a discussion later about good choices and bad choices and consequences for your actions -like not being able to stay the night with his friend for a while.

Kid Quotes

Whispered to me by Luke last year at
our church's Good Friday service:

"Mom, is tomorrow just plain old Saturday?"

Thursday Morning Surprise

Jake has always been my early riser. Now that he is 10, he'll get up, shower, sometimes eat breakfast.

This a.m. I was still in bed, where Micah and I were spending some time talking, waking up (and yes, playing Transformers)! I went to get out of bed, and Jake comes in and tells me to stay in bed! Well, OK, I guess I can.

After a little while he comes in and asks what I want for breakfast (I opted for toast) and then how many vitamins I take in the morn. He brings in the Spider man tray with cin. toast, juice and my vitamin and hot cocoa for Micah! Then he proceeds to bring me my morning coffee! He can make great coffee! Maybe that should be his "chore" every morning?!

This however, was not my only surprise! When I finished breakfast and finally got out of bed, he was already doing his schoolwork! He had finished his math and reading!

Needless to say, the rest of the morning has gone quite well!

Pooh's Parenting Poetry

The Good Little Girl by A.A. Milne

It's funny how often they say to me, "Jane?
"Have you been a good girl?"
"Have you been a good girl?"
And when they have said it, they say it again,
"Have you been a good girl?"
"Have you been a good girl?"

I go to a party, I go out to tea,
I go to an aunt for a week at the sea,
I come back from school or from playing a game;
Wherever I come from, it's always the same:
"Well?
"Have you been a good girl, Jane?"

It's always the end of the loveliest day:
"Have you been a good girl?"
"Have you been a good girl?"
I went to the Zoo, and they waited to say:
"Have you been a good girl?"
"Have you been a good girl?"

Well, what did they think that I went there to do?
And why should I want to be bad at the Zoo?
And should I be likely to say if I had?
So that's why it's funny of Mummy and Dad,
This asking and asking, in case I was bad,
"Well?
"Have you been a good girl, Jane?"

Fasting

My need for food is real.
My need for God often gets overlooked.

I think about food alot!
How often do I think about God?

I eat when I want to, often regardless if I am hungry or not.
I usually wait until I am starving to feed on the Word of God.

I lose focus when I haven't eaten.
I lose focus when I haven't spent time with God.

I get cranky when hungry.
I get even crankier when I neglet my spiritual life.

I am humbled by my weakness.
I am upheld by God's grace.

I've never thought of myself as a creative person - I don't scrapbook because it is too overwhelming, I don't decorate my house because I am too cheap to spend money on furnishings/paint/decor I am not sure if will look good, I am not musically talented (probably because as a child I didn't want to practice), I have no artistic ability.

All this to say that I think I have realized that my creative outlet is in gardening and baking(not cooking!). My only requirements for either of these is: I have no time frame to complete the task in and I am left alone!

Since it is still too early to start my veggie garden (but trust me, plans are already floating around in my head), and with sickness and yucky weather we had no agenda today, I decided to make some pie crusts. I enjoy this and I think my pie crusts turn out quite well. The key to flakiness(in the crusts!)is refrigeration before rolling out the crust. One of these will be for our dinner tonight - Spinach Pie, email me if you want the family recipe. The other, probably Peanut Butter Pie later in the week.
