Trimesters

We are on our last week of our 2nd trimester!

No, I am not talking about my pregnancy, but our school year. This year, I intentionally set up our school year to follow the trimester schedule that I find on Ambleside Online. We started after Labor Day and should end before Memorial Day.

Our first break between trimester 1 and 2 fell at Thanksgiving. What a wonderful week to not have school and just spend time as a family, including Dan!

We did take one week of at Christmas, which set us up for a break the first week of March. How we all need it! It is also nice to know that we are 2/3 of the way through our school year.

What I like about trimesters . . .it's different. It puts us on a diffrent schedule from the rest of the education institutions in this area. That benefits us when we travel, visit musuems, have outings, etc. I like that our school year is broken up with a week off here and there. It also give me a chance to start anew more often! If something wasn't working out great one sememster, I'll change it for the next. Of course, I can change it sooner if necessary, but I think I evaluate things more than I did before. I think it is less overwhelming for the boys too. They can look at there daily schedules and see the end.

A school system in our area recently voted down changing to trimesters. Personally, I think it is because it is change, not the norm and people in the Midwest don't really care for change!

Last, but not least, it allows us to take a road trip to visit our family in NC! Do you think it is spring there?!

Rainy Day

I am sitting here on the couch knowing I should be doing something more productive, but it's a rainy day. Need I say more.

I have wanted to take some pictures the last few days: Micah walking the dog with rain boots on and holding a Spiderman umbrella, the mounds of dirty snow still here, rain against the window the valentine decor is hanging on, Micah in his new (Luke's old - I love hand-me-downs) karate uniform.

But alas, I need a new camera battery. I have been selectively using the camera knowing the battery was low, but now it is completely dead. :(

Maybe I'll get up and make that granola I've been planning to make the last two days . . . or maybe I'll take a nap with the dog.

Interesting Article

Since we will now officially be a "large" family, the following article was forwarded to me by my lovely sister Cecilia. I found it humorous and interesting.
I might use some of the end comments! Let me know what you think!

Why can I not figure out how to make this a link??!! Ugh!

Life with . . . Luke

Here is Luke taking a break at the Life for Christ Karate kick-a-thon. He did great this year - 1256 kicks!

Luke and his science Christmas present(thanks Rach!). I thought the reactions would be a little bit more noticeable, but he was happy with the results.

Every Friday the boys write in their Journal. The subject matter is up to them unless they need help with ideas. Luke needs to write at least 3 sentences. Sometimes this is easy and sometimes not so much. If they want me to read their journal that week, they leave it out with their pencil marking the spot. Occasionally I go through and read the ones they didn't leave out for me. This was Luke's entry upon returning to school after Christmas break! I love his honesty!
